Facts about SLOTH

Sloths are tree-dwelling mammals found in the rainforests of Central and South America. They spend most of their lives hanging upside down from branches, moving slowly through the canopy in search of leaves to eat.

These fascinating creatures have an incredibly slow metabolism, which allows them to survive on a diet of low-energy leaves. A sloth's digestive system can take up to a month to process a single meal.

Sloths are solitary animals and communicate with each other through vocalizations and scent marking. They descend to the ground only once a week to defecate, making them vulnerable to predators during this time.

With long arms and curved claws, sloths are perfectly adapted for their arboreal lifestyle. Their fur often appears greenish due to algae growth, which provides camouflage in the forest canopy.

Despite their slow movement on land, sloths are surprisingly good swimmers. They can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes and move three times faster in water than on the ground.
