Mountain lions are large, solitary cats found across the Americas, from Canada to South America. Also known as cougars, pumas, or panthers, they are highly adaptable predators that thrive in diverse habitats including forests, deserts, and mountains.

These powerful hunters can weigh between 100 and 220 pounds and are known for their incredible agility and strength. Mountain lions are carnivores that primarily hunt deer, elk, and smaller mammals, using their stealth and speed to ambush prey.

Mountain lions are mostly nocturnal and territorial animals. A single lion may roam across a territory spanning 50 to 100 square miles. They are generally solitary except during mating season and when mothers are raising their young.
