Moose are the largest members of the deer family, with adult males weighing up to 1,500 pounds. These impressive animals are found across the northern forests of North America, Europe, and Asia.
Despite their massive size, moose are surprisingly agile swimmers and can dive up to 20 feet underwater to feed on aquatic plants. They can run at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour when threatened.
Male moose grow distinctive antlers that can span up to 6 feet wide and weigh as much as 40 pounds. These antlers are shed and regrown each year during the breeding season.
Moose have long legs that position their bodies high off the ground, making it easier for them to move through deep snow and wade through water. Their dark brown coat provides excellent camouflage in forest environments.
A moose's diet consists primarily of woody plants, leaves, and aquatic vegetation. An adult moose can consume up to 60 pounds of food per day, especially during fall when they prepare for winter.
